EMPATHY: Effective Management of Pain Along the Treatment of Hematologic MalignancY

Learn to better understand and manage pain in patients with hematologic malignancies!

If you are a member of a health care team (hematologists/oncologists, primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists) involved in the management of patients with hematologic malignancies, this educational course is for you!

Modeled after the FDA’s Opioid Analgesic REMS Education Blueprint, this educational course, which uses an adaptive learning approach*, is designed to ensure that the benefits of opioid analgesics outweigh the risks. The course will provide information on the risks of opioids and the use of other therapies to assist health care providers in reducing adverse outcomes of addiction/substance abuse disorder, unintentional overdose, and death resulting from inappropriate prescribing and misuse of opioid analgesics.

Upon completion of this course, EMPATHY participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts of pain management.
  • Assess patients with pain and identify potential risk factors for opioid use disorder.
  • Integrate opioid analgesics into a pain treatment plan individualized to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Manage patients on opioid analgesics safely and effectively in acute and chronic pain settings.
