Description
A series of case-based, interactive activities where learners will encounter decision points required of hematologists/oncologists in their multiple myeloma patient care. The goal is to provide learners with real-life examples of MM patients in racially and ethnically diverse populations and the challenges they may face in their patient care from disease detection through treatment. While survival and outcomes are improving for patients with multiple myeloma (MM) from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, improvement is not keeping pace with that seen in White patients. Certainly, when afforded care for MM equivalent to that provided White patients, many patients from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups do as well or better.
By completing this course, learners will gain an understanding that ensures the standard of care and application of treatment guidelines is equally employed in all patient populations, which will have a significant impact on outcomes in all racial and ethnic groups.Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learners should be able to:
MODULES | LEARNING OBJECTIVES |
1. Factors Affecting Survival and Mortality Outcomes for Underrepresented Individuals | Identify risk factors, mortality, and survival outcomes for racial and ethnic minority individuals with MM |
Explain the rationale for early detection and early intervention in racial and ethnic minority patients with MM along the care continuum | |
3. Emerging Approaches for the Management of Multiple Myeloma | Compare and contrast current and emerging treatment options for various stages of MM and use evidence-based guidance for the selection of appropriate therapy |
Employ actionable approaches to ensure SDM and equitable care with patients |
Learning Format
This course is made up of four eLearning modules:
Factors Affecting Survival and Mortality Outcomes for Underrepresented IndividualsLearners explore the intricate dynamics influencing survival and mortality outcomes for underrepresented individuals with MM. Delving into disparities in care, learners will gain insights that are crucial for ensuring equitable application of treatment guidelines across diverse patient populations, with the aim of improving outcomes for all racial and ethnic groups affected by MM.
The Need for Earlier Detection and Intervention
This activity emphasizes the imperative of early detection and intervention in MM. Learners will delve into the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment initiation, aiming to narrow the gap in survival and outcomes for patients with MM from underrepresented racial and ethnic populations, ultimately striving for equitable care across diverse patient populations.
Emerging Approaches for the Management of Multiple Myeloma
Learners will explore innovative strategies for the management of MM. Through an examination of emerging approaches, participants aim to bridge the gap in survival and outcomes disparities among patients from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, striving for equitable implementation of treatment guidelines across diverse patient populations.
Actionable Approaches to Remove Barriers to Care
Learners will delve into actionable approaches aimed at dismantling barriers to care for patients with MM. Through critical examination and implementation of strategies, learners work towards ensuring equitable access to standardized care, with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes across all racial and ethnic groups affected by MM.
